Nelson Rivera
Agency Owner

I began my career at the age of 19, figuring it would be a good idea to get some office experience as I pursued a college degree. From day one I knew that insurance and financial services was for me, knowing that our products and services helped families protect what matters to them. It’s now over 18 years later and I’m proud to say that I’m still helping families protect what matters most.

I opened the Rivera Agency in 2004 in Glen Cove where I grew up as a child. Just 4 years later in 2008, I opened a second location in Port Washington.  In 2010, we made the decision to combine both offices into one main location in Port Washington, which allowed us to create a better customer experience. That location is still the home of our agency today!

Port Washington, located on the north shore of Long Island, is a close-knit community. My wife, Amy, and I love this area and are happy to now raise our two children in the same area. I spend most of my free time with my kids. Sometimes you can find me waiting with the other parents at dance classes, cheering on the sidelines of the soccer field, or just enjoying as much time outdoors as possible.

Besides spending time with my family, I also make time to give back to the community. My wife and I, along with my dedicated team at the agency donate our time and resources to various causes in the north shore area. We have helped with some great organizations such as the Glen Cove YMCA, Glen Cove PD, Port Washington Fire Department and the Nicholas Pedone Foundation: Fight Hard Smile Big, as well as several others.

My team and I have been together for over 10 years. With our agency, you can experience customer service that is not only professional but also treats you like family. We understand life on the north shore first-hand and are committed to helping you protect what matters most.

Office Manager

I’ve been in the insurance industry for thirteen years as a dedicated Customer Service Representative. I’m extremely motivated to maintain customer satisfaction and contribute to the success of Nelson’s amazing agency. My favorite part about my job is knowing how happy the customers are when they understand their insurance needs and feel protected.

When I’m not talking about work, you can usually find me bragging about my family. I have the greatest kids and feel very lucky to be a mom. Outside of the office you can find me cooking for my family and friends, enjoying the time together.

Bob Bennett
Financial Specialist

I was born in Brooklyn, NY and attended Brooklyn College before I made my way to the Wharton School of Business in the Professional workshops offered in estate planning. With twenty plus years in financial services, I worked for two attorneys in the living trust area before I was with Allstate. What excites me most about my clients it the work I do for them and knowing the difference I can make!  I love the satisfaction this work gives me and I really believe I can make a difference in people’s lives.

When I’m not working, you can find me driving my classic car, traveling, at the theatre, or dining out. I’m also a big NY sports fan and try to attend as many Yankees and Rangers Hockey games as possible. I love helping people and would love to see how we can make a difference in the lives of our community!

Ruben Portillo

I am a young insurance professional with strong analytical and risk management skills managing various insurance needs, including auto, home, and life insurance, of current and prospective insurance clients in New York. The insurance industry is about people and it supports giving back to others in valuable ways. Whether I am providing proper coverage or excellent claim service, I am always helping others during difficult times. Additionally, The Rivera Agency offers me many opportunities to volunteer within the community. The ability to help others is a gratifying experience and it provides me with a rewarding career.

I am graduating Nassau Community College in the spring of 2019 with an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration and will be pursuing an MBA in finance starting in the fall of 2019. I am happily married and have a lovely son. Away from the business I enjoy playing soccer, table tennis and spending time with family and friends. I spend my time reading news articles, blogs, and watching Netflix. I also love listening to music. When I am not doing either of those, I am daydreaming. I really enjoy helping people, and working in the insurance industry gives me the opportunity to do that in many ways. Helping clients in some of the most difficult times in their lives, dealing with tragedies, loss of homes, or automobiles is the hardest thing to see, but is the most rewarding part of my job. Working in the insurance field is definitely challenging and at times demanding, but you feel needed.

My favorite way to spend weekends is hiking the local trails in my area, socializing with friends and family, and catching up on reading and watching my favorite shows. Down time is also a perfect time to catch up on housework. I enjoy playing soccer, it involves a lot of running and skills, I have been playing since I was five, and love that it involves team effort.

I am a volunteer at my local church. I also really love my city and I feel a need to give back to it with something other than tax dollars.
